The 5 Main Components of an Off Grid RV Solar Power System

RV Solar is a must have for us! Having off grid solar will allow us to go boondocking while we live full time in our completely renovated RV. Today we’ll be showing you the essential components of an off grid solar power system and where they are located on our mobile, off grid, solar powered RV.

Here is a list of the components and what they do!

➞ Solar panels – A panel designed to absorb the energy from the sun’s rays in the form of electricity. We have four 12V, 150W monocrystalline solar panels.
➞ Charge controller – Controls the charge coming from the panels to the battery and protects the batteries from being overcharged.
➞ Battery bank – Stores all the electricity gathered by the solar panels. Our battery bank consists of four 6V lead-acid golf cart batteries
➞ Inverter – Converts direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC). We use a 2500W pure sine wave inverter.
➞ Battery monitor – Shows you the energy going into and out of your battery bank.
